The Dictionary plays an important part in
DATASURFER
operations. It helps hiding the complexity of the data model. Thanks to the
Dictionary, a User can create new reports easily, because all the technical
work (such as joining tables, writing SQL queries, etc) has already been
done and saved in the Dictionary.
The Dictionary is also used to store customary field
attributes (descriptions, display formats, etc). These informations allow
the Design Wizard to generate
user-friendly reports, even if database fields have awful incomprehensible
names!
