Supported platforms

Supported platforms: all Microsoft Windows 32 bits (NT 4, 98, 2000, TSE, XP, Vista).

Required disk space: up to 200 MB (not including your databases).

 

DBMS connection

  • Supported connection technologies : Microsoft ADO (or "OLEDB"), Microsoft ODBC, Borland BDE, and native access to Text Files, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Jet, Interbase.
    Note : ADO, ODBC and BDE drivers are not supplied.

  • Connection re-routing and merging facility: useful to manage and consolidate several companies.

  • Supported DBMSs: all complying to the SQL 2 standard.

Report editor

Powerful and user-friendly report editor:

  • Graphical design wizard, to be used in create or edit mode.

  • SQL query editor.

  • Syntax-highlighting formula editor

  • Document framework editor.

  • Comprehensive property editor.

  • Direct report script edit window.

  • Can be used as a report viewer to display, print, export or email reports. Document, Data, Chart and Hypercube viewers available.

Reports

  • Data sources: data can be retrieved from databases or supplied by external applications. Computations and analysis algorithms can be applied to retrieved datasets.

  • Output: display to standard or custom window, print, email, visual export (PDF, HTML, RTF, Synactis Archive, Synactis standalone Archive, BMP, JPEG, EMF), data export (TXT, XML, MS-Excel, MS-Word, MS-Word MailMerge, Data Warehouse).

  • Supports: images, rich texts, bar-codes, business charts, tables of contents, visual models, hyperlinks, calculation formulae...

  • Dynamic layout: dynamic sizing and positioning, automatic field alignment, logical conditions...

  • Can change paper size and orientation inside a report.

Programming interfaces

REPORTMAKER offers 3 equivalent object-oriented APIs. Each API contains about 300 programming symbols (methods, properties and events):

  • ActiveX

  • VCL, supporting

    • Delphi 5, 6, 7, 2005, 2006 and 2007 (in Win 32 mode)

    • C++Builder 5

  • DLL: based on a plain dynamic link library.

Application deployment

REPORTMAKER contains an End-User site building utility. This utility packs together all files necessary to operate reports on end-user sites and automates installation.

A REPORTRETOUCHER license is required on each End-User site. Licenses may be purchased by Developers on a per-unit basis or globally within an OEM agreement.

Data dictionaries

  • Data dictionaries store relevant informations about tables, fields, views and parameters.

  • Automatic synchronizing with DBMS structure.

  • Dictionary inheritance mechanism designed for giving full control and security to software publishers.

Language management

  • Software and documentation are bilingual (English and French).

  • Data dictionaries can support an unlimited number of languages and store linguistic informations (such as field descriptions, display formats, etc) in every language.

  • The Design Wizard creates multilingual reports: document language can be changed at any time when viewing a report.

External libraries

Custom plug-in libraries can be written by Developers and installed in REPORTMAKER environment to implement additional features:

  • New functions to be supported by calculation formulae

  • New displayers, to give custom appearances to reports fields.

  • Co-branding settings.

Documentation and training

  • User's Manual and Programmer's Manuals (one Programmer's Manual dedicated to each API).

  • Contextual help (CHM format)

REPORTRETOUCHER

  • Can retouch reports created by REPORTMAKER or DATASURFER., according to retouch rights defined at design time.

  • Direct selection on the screen of items to be retouched (no design window).

  • Can move and resize fields using the mouse.

  • Can edit: images, constant values, fonts, text angle, colors, formats, horizontal and vertical alignments, background styles, borders.

  • Can hide and unmask fields.

  • Can create constant fields.

  • Can change and edit document visual models.

  • Can edit margins.

  • Can be used as a document viewer to display, print, export or email reports.

REPORTSERVER

  • Technology: ISAPI extension (multi-thread DLL).

  • Required platform: Windows-based HTTP server supporting ISAPI (such as Microsoft IIS).

  • Can publish reports created by REPORTMAKER or DATASURFER.

  • Report options can be specified on launch: database, SQL query, parameters, additional filters, report language, visual model, response format, response destination.

  • Dynamic download management system.

  • Database query utility: generates custom reports upon client choices.

  • Remote administration utility: lets you set up access rights, configure the server and define operating statistics.
